North Korea - (PDRK)  People's Democratic Republic of Korea

North Korea is one of the world's most secretive and restrictive countries. Only a few thousand people are allowed to visit North Korea every year and only a very few Americans.  North Korea borders with South Korea, China, and Russia. The country is slightly smaller in area than England. Flights from Beijing to Pyongyang take 2-hours via Air China and the North Korean airline Koryo Air.  You can also take a train from Beijing to North Korea.  There are no regularly scheduled domestic flights, and there are hardly any public buses running in the country or between major cities.  There are virtually no bicycles in North Korea, in stark contrast to China, and there are no street signs in the city or direction signs in the country.  North Koreans are not permitted to travel around their own country without permission, and foreigners must travel by car with a driver and monitor.
